Kargil: The 4th edition of the LG Cup Ice Hockey Championship 2024-25 was officially inaugurated today at the Ice Hockey Rink, Khree Sultan Choo Sports Stadium, Biamathang, Kargil. The event commenced with great enthusiasm and was launched by Executive Councillor for Revenue, LAHDC Kargil, Kacho Mohd Feroz, in the presence of a large gathering of ice hockey enthusiasts.
Inaugural Match and Dignitaries in Attendance
The championship’s first match featured an exciting face-off between the LSRC Army Team and Royal Chiktan. The opening ceremony was graced by several dignitaries, including:
- Executive Councillor for Zanskar Affairs, Er. Punchok Tashi
- Deputy Commissioner/CEO, LAHDC Kargil, Shrikant Balasaheb Suse
- Joint Director, Youth Services and Sports, Ladakh, Tahir Hussain Zubadavi

Promoting Sportsmanship and Cultural Exchange
In his address, Executive Councillor Feroz emphasized the significance of the championship, noting that it fosters sportsmanship, physical fitness, and cultural exchange between teams from Leh and Kargil. He reassured the audience of LAHDC Kargil’s continued support in promoting ice hockey, which also serves as a key driver for tourism in the region.
Championship Highlights
The tournament features a total of six teams, including four boys’ teams from Leh and Kargil and two girls’ teams. Joint Director Youth Services and Sports, Tahir Hussain Zubadavi, highlighted the Administration’s commitment to expanding the infrastructure for ice hockey. He announced plans to develop additional ice hockey rinks across Kargil to further boost the sport.
