Young fencing sensation Subhanaya Sharma from Jammu and Kashmir has been selected to represent India at the Cadet and Junior Fencing World Championship set to take place in Wuxi, China. Prior to this prestigious event, she will undergo intensive training at a coaching camp organized by the Sports Authority of India (SAI) in Pune, which started on March 20 and will conclude on April 11.
Subhanaya earned her spot on the Indian squad following her stellar performance at the 19th Cadet National Fencing Championship (Boys & Girls) for the 2024-25 season held in Rudrapur, Uttarakhand. Competing under the banner of the Jammu and Kashmir Fencing Association, she clinched a bronze medal in the Sabre event, further solidifying her position as one of the country’s rising stars in fencing.
Her remarkable achievement has been widely lauded by Nuzhat Gul, Secretary of the Jammu and Kashmir Sports Council, along with International fencer Rashid Ahmed Choudhary, Adv. Supriya Chouhan, and Maninder Pal Singh, who hailed it as a moment of pride for the region.
Subhanaya’s fencing journey has been shaped under the guidance of coach Ujjwal Gupta, a former international fencer and recipient of the State Award and Sher-i-Kashmir Award. Congratulatory messages also poured in from Vijay Kumar, President of the Jammu and Kashmir Fencing Association, and General Secretary Javed Choudhary, who wished her success at the upcoming championship.
Her selection marks a historic moment for Jammu and Kashmir’s sporting community, further inspiring young athletes to pursue excellence in fencing.
