Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) finally ended their decade-long winless streak at the Wankhede Stadium, edging past Mumbai Indians (MI) by 12 runs in a high-scoring IPL 2024 encounter on Monday night.
After being put in to bat, skipper Rajat Patidar (64 off 32 balls) and Virat Kohli (67 off 42) led from the front, powering RCB to an imposing 221/5 in 20 overs. A late blitz by Jitesh Sharma (40* off 19) added the finishing touches to a strong innings.
Chasing 222, Mumbai found themselves in trouble early but were brought back into the game by Tilak Varma (56 off 29) and Hardik Pandya (42 off 15), who added a fiery 89-run partnership for the fifth wicket to put RCB under pressure.
However, just when MI seemed poised for a heist, Krunal Pandya turned the tide with the ball. Bowling a tense final over, he claimed three wickets to seal a memorable win for the visitors.
💬 It was RCB’s first victory at the Wankhede since 2014, and a morale-boosting one at that.
