The 7th Kyrougi and 4th Poomsae Poonch District Taekwondo Championship, organized by the Poonch District Taekwondo Association (PDTA) under the aegis of J&K Taekwondo Association and supported by the J&K Sports Council, began today at the Poonch Taekwondo Academy.
This championship features categories for Pee Wee, Sub Junior, Cadet, Junior, and Senior, encompassing both male and female participants. Around 190 young athletes from five Taekwondo clubs and various institutions are competing in this significant event.
Key Guests and Addresses
The chief guest, Taranpreet Kour, General Secretary of PDTA, extended her best wishes to all participants. Other dignitaries present included Dr. Sarfraz Mir, Chairman of Sir Syed Education Mission and Soch India, Jatinder Sharma, Head Master of GMS Khorinar, and Sarvjeet Singh, Wushu Coach. The welcome address was delivered by Amit Sharma, Joint Secretary of PDTA.
Technical Supervision and Results
The event is being technically supervised by Rajinder Singh, Taekwondo Coach and National Referee from the Department of Youth Services and Sports, along with Akarshit Sudan and district referees Toseef Tahir, Vishvas Sudan, Vishnu Raina, Qasim Hussain, and Hassan.
In today’s matches, gold medalists included Prabjot Singh, Garvin Gupta, Ranajay Gupta, Karnik Bhalla, Ishmeet Singh, Wasia Kouser, Sana Chouhan, Kritika Raina, Atiba Fatima, and Maryiam ul Nisa. Silver medals were secured by Mohd Irfan, Mohd Firdose, and Nazma Kouser.
This championship highlights the growing interest in Taekwondo and showcases the immense talent present in the region.
