Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh, the controversial chief of Dera Sacha Sauda, has been granted a 30-day parole, sources confirmed. The parole allows Ram Rahim to leave the Sunaria Jail in Haryana’s Rohtak district on Tuesday.

Currently serving a 20-year sentence for the 2017 conviction on charges of raping two of his disciples, the parole granted to the self-styled guru has drawn attention, particularly as it comes just days before the Delhi Assembly Elections on February 5, 2025.

Ram Rahim, who is the head of the Sirsa-based Dera Sacha Sauda, commands a large and devoted following across several states, including Haryana, Punjab, Rajasthan, and beyond. In Haryana alone, the Dera has a significant presence in districts such as Sirsa, Fatehabad, Kurukshetra, Kaithal, and Hisar, with numerous followers in these regions.

The decision to grant parole has sparked conversations and raised questions ahead of the crucial state elections, with many wondering about its potential political implications. Ram Rahim’s influence over his followers, especially in the politically significant state of Haryana, adds another layer to the ongoing political dynamics.
