Union Home Minister Amit Shah assured BJP MLAs and senior party leaders on Sunday that the terror-related situation in the Jammu region will be brought under control shortly. During a high-level meeting held at the BJP headquarters in Trikuta Nagar, Shah reiterated that statehood to Jammu & Kashmir will be restored at an “appropriate time,” reaffirming the Central Government’s long-standing commitment.
The two-hour meeting saw participation from key leaders including Dr. Jitendra Singh, Tarun Chug, Sat Sharma, Sunil Sharma, Jugal Kishore Sharma, and Ghulam Ali Khatana. All 28 BJP MLAs from J&K were present.
“Security Forces are on the Job”: Shah
Responding to concerns over increased militant activity, especially in the upper reaches of districts like Kathua, Shah assured that security agencies are formulating strategic responses. “The situation will be under control shortly,” he said, referring to the recent Kathua encounter that claimed the lives of four policemen and two terrorists.
Waqf Bill and Governance Under Spotlight
On the controversial Waqf (Amendment) Bill, Shah asserted that the law is intended for the benefit of poor, women, and orphans and is not aimed at disrupting religious institutions. The BJP, he stressed, stands by the Bill fully.
He also addressed concerns raised by opposition parties about JKAS transfers and administrative decisions, emphasizing that all actions are being carried out within the rule of law.
“Play a Strong Opposition”: Shah to BJP MLAs
Shah guided legislators on how to counter political narratives surrounding Article 370, Waqf reforms, and Statehood. He urged them to engage constructively both inside and outside the Assembly to expose misleading claims by opposition parties like the National Conference and Congress.
A Visit of Strategic Importance
Shah’s visit—his first since the formation of the Omar Abdullah-led government—is viewed as highly significant amid the ongoing anti-terror operations in the Jammu region.
He is scheduled to:
- Visit BSF Border Outpost Vinay in Kathua on April 8.
- Meet martyrs’ families and issue compassionate appointment letters.
- Review development programs and the security situation at the Raj Bhavan in Srinagar.
Tarun Chug: “J&K is Moving Forward Under Modi Ji”
BJP General Secretary Tarun Chug praised Shah’s visit and highlighted ongoing development:
“Roads, railways, medical facilities—everything has improved. The people of J&K are witnessing real change.”
He reaffirmed that the Waqf Bill is pro-poor and asked opposition leaders to choose between supporting “the looters or the needy.”
