PATNA, Nov 14: The ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA) gained a stronghold in the early trends of the Bihar Assembly elections, leading in 166 of the 243 seats. This places them well above the majority mark of 122 seats, according to data from the Election Commission.

The opposition INDIA bloc, comprising various parties including the RJD and Congress, trails significantly, showing leads in only 59 seats. Election officials noted that these figures could change as several rounds of counting remain to be announced.

Among the leading parties within the NDA, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) claims leadership in 72 seats, while the Janata Dal (United) or JD(U) follows closely with 71 seats. The Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) is currently ahead in 18 seats, while the Hindustan Awam Morcha (Secular) and the Rashtriya Loktantrik Morcha (RLM) lead in four and one seat, respectively.

In the competing INDIA bloc, the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) is ahead in 43 seats; the Congress shows just eight leads. The Communist Party of India (Marxist-Leninist) Liberation holds six, with the CPI and CPI(M) each leading in one seat.

Prominent candidates from various parties are observing mixed fortunes. One notable name is RJD’s Khesari Lal Yadav, who is trailing in Chhapra, while BJP’s Maithili Thakur claims the lead in Alinagar. In Ragunathpur, RJD’s Osama Shahab is in the lead, and JD(U) minister Leshi Singh maintains an advantage in Dhamdaha.

Tejashwi Yadav, the chief ministerial candidate for the INDIA bloc, holds a narrow lead in Raghopur. Other key figures within the opposition include Deputy CMs Samrat Choudhary from Tarapur and Vijay Kumar Sinha from Lakhisarai, both of whom are leading in their respective constituencies.

In Mahua, however, Tej Pratap Yadav finds himself in fourth place, with LJP(RV)’s Sanjay Kumar Singh currently leading.

This early phase of counting reflects significant trends in the political landscape of Bihar, with the NDA’s performance indicating strong voter support. As the counting progresses, the final results may still present unexpected shifts, but the NDA’s early lead suggests a consolidation of power.
